Bioengineer / Molecular Biologist
On-site · Lausanne, Vaud, Switzerland
Job Summary
This is a hands-on research role on the Biology and Production teams, focusing on developing and optimizing protein expression workflows across cell-free and cell-based systems, performing DNA synthesis and assembly, and designing assays to characterize protein binding, stability, and function. You will personally run molecular biology experiments at the bench, analyze data, iterate on protocols, and collaborate with the automation team to convert methods into automated workflows. The role emphasizes practical bench work, troubleshooting expression and purification of recombinant proteins, and advancing high-throughput workflows to scale production and characterization, with a focus on automation-ready methods and rigorous experimental design. Location is Lausanne, Switzerland (on-site).
Required Qualifications
- MSc or PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, or a related field
- Hands-on depth matters - years at the bench doing real molecular biology counts more than the degree title
- Practical protein expression and purification skills (solubility, folding, functionality)
- Experience with DNA synthesis, cloning, or assembly methods (PCR, Golden Gate, Gibson); high-throughput experience is a plus
- Comfortable with data analysis - interpret chromatograms, binding curves, expression gels
- Rigorous experimentalist with attention to controls and reproducibility
- Interest in automation and desire for protocols to become automated workflows
- Independent and resourceful problem-solver
