Job Summary
The BIM/VDC Coordinator – HVAC Duct will lead the development, coordination, and delivery of accurate, constructible BIM model outputs for HVAC duct systems, aligning with company standards and project requirements. Responsible for model updates, clash detection, and coordination with Project Management, Field Operations, and other trades to ensure schedule and fabrication readiness. Provides direction and mentorship to Detailers and Trainees, reinforces standard workflows, and supports continuous improvement of the VDC process. Duties include creating fabrication-ready deliverables (spools, hanger layouts, Trimble points), developing installation-driven outputs, producing as-built models and turnover documents, performing rigorous quality checks, and resolving coordination issues. Requires strong BIM/VDC knowledge, experience with Revit and Navisworks Manage, and familiarity with SMACNA guidelines, with a focus on achieving accurate, coordinated MEP models throughout the project lifecycle.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Associate degree, technical certificate, or trade schooling preferred in drafting, BIM, engineering technology, or construction
- Minimum 4+ years of experience in BIM/VDC, mechanical detailing, or MEP coordination
- Experience producing coordinated mechanical models and construction-ready deliverables
- Proficiency in Revit for MEP modeling
- Experience with Navisworks Manage including clash detection and issue tracking
- Ability to interpret contract drawings, mechanical specifications, shop drawings, and MEP documentation
- Familiarity with fabrication-focused workflows and model outputs (e.g., spooling, hanger layouts, equipment modeling)
- Experience with Autodesk BIM 360/ACC or similar CDE platforms
- Knowledge of SMACNA duct construction standards and coordination practices
- Strong communication and leadership skills for mentoring Detailers and Trainees
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines
- Understanding of LOD concepts and model organization
