Job Summary
BIM Specialist for Electrical Construction responsible for developing electrical BIM models and installation drawings for major projects. Collaborate with the Project Manager and site teams to align BIM deliverables with project schedules and installation plans. Prepare detailed drawings based on verbal instructions, rough notes, engineering drawings, and rough sketches to ensure optimal installation outcomes. Develop installation drawings for electrical systems (power distribution, grounding, lighting, fire alarm and security, building automation, structured cabling, alternative energy, duct banks, riser drawings). Interpret structural, architectural, electrical, and mechanical drawings across occupancy types. Perform technical calculations (voltage drop, conduit fill, etc.). Review design drawings and provide feedback to meet requirements. Attend coordination meetings and support team decisions. Ensure deliverables align with project schedules and implement revisions as needed. Prepare clash detection reports to maintain order, schedule, and quality. Manage BIM model files and installation drawings in common data environments and address BIM/VDC coordination requests from general contractors, site teams, and other trades.
Required Qualifications
- Post-secondary training in electrical
- 5 years of experience in the construction industry
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems (power distribution, fire safety systems, access control and CCTV, structured cabling)
- Autodesk knowledge including AutoCAD, MEP, Revit
- Windows Office Suite proficiency
- Understanding of drawing levels, references files, CAD tools, scaling, cross-sectional interpolations
- Team-oriented with project management experience
- Attention to detail and strong time-management skills
- Ability to manage multiple initiatives within a plan
