Job Summary
Billing Specialist in Radiation Oncology handles daily case charges in the billing system, enters medical/hospital charges, verifies accuracy for reimbursement, collaborates with nurses to adjust charges, assists with insurance pre-authorizations, tracks pre-authorizations and treatment codes to ensure compliance, coordinates peer-to-peer authorizations when denials occur, obtains base prices for charges, serves as a resource on coding and billing, follows up with other departments to ensure billing accuracy, and supports medical records and appeals processes; requires solid knowledge of billing, insurance terminology, ICD-9/CPT coding, and attention to detail, with strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Two years of medical insurance, insurance preauthorization, billing, or coding experience
- Previous hospital billing experience preferred
- Basic computer skills
- Understanding of ICD-9 and CPT coding classifications
- Excellent organizational and follow-up skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with insurance companies and physicians
