Job Summary
Enter charges accurately and expeditiously to ensure proper records handling and fast payment responses. Initiate private pay collections after insurance cancellations, denials, or other issues. Obtain referrals, pre-authorizations, and verify eligibility and benefits when required. Prepare, review, and transmit claims using billing software, including electronic and paper processing. Follow up on unpaid claims within standard billing cycles and check each payment for accuracy against contract discounts. Identify and bill secondary or tertiary insurances. Research denied claims to modify them for maximum reimbursement. Answer inquiries from patients, insurance companies, or employees regarding accounts, the billing process, or appeals. Liaise between payers and provider representatives when necessary. Maintain complete knowledge of reimbursement requirements for assigned payers and communicate policy changes to management. Serve as a troubleshooter for accounts receivable and system issues.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Minimum of six (6) months in a medical related field and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Proficient English (verbal, written)
- Proficiency with computers, with strong typing skills
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
