Job Summary
Billing & Collections Specialist I handles up-front collection activities for insurance and patient balances, follows up on claim status, researches rejections/denials, and documents accounts. The role communicates with patients, practice partners, coworkers, and insurance companies to maximize reimbursement and ensure timely account resolution. Responsibilities include sending statements and updates, maintaining records of communications, updating billing systems, identifying issues that impede payments, providing explanations of benefits to patients, running ageing reports, following up on claims with insurance, issuing refunds for credit balances, and applying adjustments per state law and USOSM protocol. The position requires strong communication, organizational, and multitasking abilities, with experience in a medical/dental environment considered a plus.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma, GED or equivalent
- Experience in a medical and/or dental environment a plus
- Proficient in use of computers and Patient Management Software
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with frequent interruptions
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Problem-solving skills
- Team player
