Job Summary
Provide counsel and legal support to business units on complex matters, including contractual reviews, negotiations, and personal information transfers. Draft complex commercial contracts, certificates, and related documents while interpreting legal documents and rendering opinions on regulatory issues under PIPEDA and consumer reporting legislation. Advise senior management on legislative developments and corporate risk analysis, ensuring the company remains within established legal scopes. Deliver formal and informal training to internal clients and maintain professional relationships with legal teams, external clients, and management. Brief the Director, Legal on major issues and support team initiatives. Requires a J.D. or LLB, 5-7 years of experience, and bilingual proficiency in English and French. This remote role involves occasional in-person attendance and some travel.
Required Qualifications
- J.D. or LLB from a recognized law school
- Member in good standing of a law society in any Canadian province
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience as a lawyer
- Bilingual (English and French)
- Knowledge and understanding of administrative law
- Knowledge and understanding of consumer reporting legislation
- Knowledge and understanding of other privacy legislation
- Knowledge and understanding of litigation
- Knowledge and understanding of general corporate commercial knowledge
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to interact at all levels of the organization
- Strong organizational and advocacy skills
- Ability to support multiple, complex, and often conflicting and quickly changing priorities
- Strong analytic and problem solving skills
- Technologically adept and proficiency with the tools of the profession
