Job Summary
Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) determines donor eligibility, manages donor reactions, reviews laboratory test results, and notifies donors of unsuitable results. Works under the Center Manager/Assistant Manager and Center Physician for medical issues; familiar with plasma industry regulations and EHS guidance. Responsibilities include informed consent, AIDS education and confidential self-exclusion, medical history interview and acceptance requirements, physical examination, blood testing, review of SPE, evaluation of donor reactions, adherence to SOPs for medical emergencies, coordination with Center Physician or Medical Affairs for unacceptable findings, and support of Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees; may serve as Pandemic Coordinator per EHS guidance.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent including graduate of a recognized nursing program with state requirements
- Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: LPN or LVN
- CPR and AED certification
- Fulfill state requirements (in state of licensure) for basic IV therapy
- Satisfactorily complete the FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist
- Two years in a clinical or hospital setting
