Job Summary
Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) to determine donor eligibility, manage donor adverse events, review laboratory test results, and notify donors of unsuitable test results. Works under the supervision of the Plasma Center Manager (and Assistant Manager as applicable) for operational guidance and under the Center Physician for medical issues; familiar with plasma collection regulations and environmental, health and safety (EHS) guidance. Responsibilities include informed consent, AIDS education and confidential self-exclusion, medical history interview, physical examination, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE); evaluate donor reactions; follow SOPs for medical emergencies and donor safety; escalate to Center Physician or Medical Affairs as needed for medical/technical guidance; support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees; assist with occupational health/ER incident management; may act as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS; contribute to a team focused on donor care and safety within BioLife/Takeda operations.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent including graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements
- Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: EMT-Paramedic
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification
- Fulfill state requirements (in state of licensure) for basic IV therapy
- Satisfactorily complete the FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist
- Two years in a clinical or hospital setting
