Job Summary
Manage high-volume inbound patient calls in English and Spanish, handling appointment scheduling, insurance verification, and clinical triage within the athenahealth EMR. Process prescription refill requests, coordinate referrals with specialists, and document all patient interactions while maintaining HIPAA compliance. This full-time contractor role (40 hours, Mon-Fri, 8 AM–5 PM EST) requires fluent bilingual skills and at least two years of medical assistant experience supporting U.S.-based providers. Required Qualifications
- athenahealth (athenaOne) EMR experience
- Fluent English and Spanish
- Minimum 2 years of Medical Assistant experience supporting U.S.-based healthcare providers
- Experience performing both front-office and back-office Medical Assistant duties
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, clinical workflows, prescription refill processes, and referral coordination
- Experience verifying insurance eligibility and patient benefits
- Ability to appropriately answer clinical questions within Medical Assistant scope of practice
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Outstanding customer service and phone etiquette
- Strong organizational, multitasking, and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced remote environment while maintaining accuracy and professionalism
