Job Summary
Bilingual Hotline Specialist posts to staff a 24/7 crisis hotline serving English- and Spanish-speaking callers; role involves counseling, information/referrals, and crisis intervention in stressful situations. Primary duties include assessing caller needs, completing required forms and statistics, maintaining confidentiality, following hotline policies, using Language Line for translation, and participating in ongoing training. Hybrid remote arrangement with location in Hyattsville, MD area. Requires strong written and spoken English and Spanish, empathy, active listening, teamwork, and ability to work varied shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Training provided prior to or during the first six weeks of employment; role may involve coordinating with government and nonprofit partners and responding to urgent mental health and safety needs.”,
Required Qualifications
- Fluent in English and Spanish (required)
- High School Diploma/GED
- Successful completion of Initial Crisis Intervention Training
- Completes ASIST Training
- Must listen and communicate well, be non-judgmental, have self-initiative and work well as a team member
- Must have a computer/laptop, high-speed internet and a quiet workspace
- Bilingual Hotline Specialists will undergo a test and an oral proficiency interview in English and Spanish
