Job Summary
The Behavioral Health Intake Nurse will serve as the primary person to provide clinical intake screening and determines the eligibility and benefits of all coming referrals. Coordinates admissions and discharges, conducts initial assessments, and maintains clinical records while supporting communication within the unit. Oversees clerical tasks, collaborates with physicians, finance, and admitting departments, and ensures timely responses to referrals and inquiries. Requires 18 months of recent acute psychiatric inpatient experience, knowledge of psychiatric nursing, strong organizational skills, and proficiency with standard office software and EHR systems. Scheduling includes full-time night shifts (3 shifts per week with weekend availability), and the role involves handling insurance eligibility, patient financial responsibilities, data collection, and maintaining HIPAA-compliant records.
Required Qualifications
- Eighteen (18) months recent experience in acute psychiatric inpatient setting.
- Knowledge of psychiatric nursing principles and practices.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and stressful situations.
- Excellent reading, verbal & written communication skills.
- Proficiency with computer programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and EHR documentation.
- Knowledge of intake processes and insurance eligibility.
- Ability to maintain HIPAA confidentiality.
