Job Summary
Monitor baggage handling system operations, identify issues impacting flow, and respond promptly to conveyor jams, alarms, and system faults by clearing obstructions and resetting equipment. Safely remove stuck, misplaced, or damaged baggage, perform manual encoding for unreadable tags, and sort luggage to appropriate carousels using carts in high-traffic environments. Conduct routine walk-through inspections to identify safety hazards, report malfunctions to maintenance personnel, and maintain cleanliness of conveyor systems. Assist with preventive maintenance tasks, troubleshooting, and emergency response efforts while adhering to lockout/tagout and security procedures. Maintain accurate records of inspections and incidents, ensuring all areas remain organized and compliant with airport safety standards.
Required Qualifications
- High School Graduate or General Educational Development (GED)
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English
- Must possess the ability to perform shift work including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays
- Must possess the versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work with constantly changing priorities
- Must be able to report to work on a regular, consistent, and timely basis; must be prompt and maintain good attendance
- Must possess the ability to work independently and as a member of various teams, a self-starter
- Must exhibit a good customer service attitude
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time and must be able to sit, push/pull, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms
- Good hand/eye coordination is required
- Specific vision abilities are required for: proximity, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 90 pounds or more
- The employee must be able to successfully pass a drug screening, a drivers' license check and validation, a ten (10) year Criminal History Records Check (CHRC), federal fingerprinting and security threat assessment as well as airport security badging
