Job Summary
Join the Teachers Retirement System as a Benefits Specialist: Retirement Counselor to provide retirement counseling, estimate monthly benefits, and support members with their retirement needs. Requires a Bachelor's degree and 5 years of related experience, with strong math and organizational skills.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from a (4) year accredited college/university.
- Minimum of (5) years of retirement related experience, eligibility determination or reviewing and analyzing requests for determination of retirement benefits or other related benefits.
- Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suites.
- Ability to work overtime as needed.
Desired Qualifications
- Strong math aptitude and knowledge of clerical accounting methods, procedures and terminology.
- Knowledge of operating basic computer software, office systems and equipment.
- Excellent organizational skills and case management ability.
- Ability to display empathy under extreme circumstances.
- Ability to analyze data and determine correct information for benefits.
- Ability to communicate effectively and establish a working relationship with members to ensure needs are met.
- Ability to take initiative to solve problems and resolve complex issues involving retirement benefits.
