Job Summary

Benefits Specialist at ECPI University responsible for administration, configuration, and regulatory oversight of employee benefits programs, including self-insured and fully insured plans. Serves as SME in benefits operations and HRIS benefits configuration (UKG Pro and/or Workday), handling open enrollment, life events, payroll integration, COBRA, and vendor coordination with TPAs and carriers. Requires strong knowledge of self-insured plans, ERISA/HIPAA/ACA compliance, and data reporting; collaborates with Finance, Payroll, and vendors to ensure accurate deductions, invoicing, and plan design changes. Office or hybrid environment in Virginia Beach, VA. 3–5+ years of experience in benefits administration and experience configuring UKG Pro and/or Workday are preferred; bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or related field (preferred)
  • 3–5+ years of progressive experience in benefits administration
  • Experience configuring benefit plans in UKG Pro and/or Workday
  • Experience supporting open enrollment configuration and system testing
  • Strong knowledge of self-insured (self-funded) benefit plan administration (strongly preferred)
  • Knowledge of ERISA and applicable reporting requirements (e.g., Form 5500)
  • Ability to configure and test benefit plans and payroll integration in HRIS systems
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and reporting tools
  • Professional certifications such as CEBS, PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP (preferred)
  • Office or hybrid environment experience
  • Experience with COBRA administration and regulatory compliance
  • Experience coordinating with brokers, carriers, TPAs, and other vendors
  • Experience with ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, and Section 125 requirements
  • Experience with self-insured plan funding mechanisms and stop-loss coordination
  • Strong documentation and internal controls skills
