Job Summary
Benefits Specialist responsible for the daily insurance verification process: verify benefits, determine coverage, and notify patients of financial obligations, ensuring payment collection at the time of surgery. Performs duties including reviewing records, data entry, abstracting clinical information, maintaining confidentiality per HIPAA, coordinating submissions, and ongoing education. Requires strong 10-key proficiency, typing at least 40 wpm, and solid skills in Microsoft Excel and Outlook. Works with staff and physicians to verify insurance benefits (private, Medicare, Medicaid), coordinate benefits and upfront collections, and communicate with patients and the healthcare team. Requires effective communication, teamwork, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks in a clinical office setting.
Required Qualifications
- HS school diploma/GES REQUIRED
- previous experience in health insurance verification/billing (REQUIRED)
- knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel
