Job Summary
Benefits Manager responsible for primary and overall management of Benefits Administration within Washington State University’s Human Resource Services. Leads complex benefit issues, manages PEBB/HCA benefits, supervises benefits staff, and collaborates with management to promote best practices. Located on the Pullman campus in Washington; full-time, exempt position with a comprehensive benefits package and opportunities to work with enterprise HRIS platforms. Requires a bachelor’s degree, several years of HR benefit experience including supervisory responsibilities, and strong regulatory, vendor-management, and communication skills to support a large university workforce.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- four (4) years of progressively responsible human resource experience in benefit programs (retirement plans, health insurance, medical spending accounts, life insurance, long-term disability)
- at least one (1) year of supervisory experience
- ability to interpret and apply federal and state benefits regulations
- experience with vendor management
- strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, including conflict-resolution
- ability to interact with large groups and individuals at all work levels
- commitment to valuing diversity and creating an inclusive environment
- proficiency with computers and software applications
- experience with enterprise HRIS platforms or benefits administration modules (preferred)
- professional certification in HR (preferred)
- HR experience in a higher education setting (preferred)
- experience with Washington Public Employee Benefit Board benefits program (preferred)
- understanding of Paid Family Medical Leave program (preferred)
- experience in classification, compensation, employee relations, labor relations, training and development, and medical leave/accommodation (preferred)
