Job Summary
Benefits & Leave Specialist administers employee benefit programs (medical, dental, vision, life insurance, retirement, voluntary benefits) and manages leave programs (FMLA, state leave, ADA accommodations, military leave, short-term disability). Maintains open enrollment activities, conducts benefits communications and employee education, ensures regulatory compliance, maintains records in HRIS, and provides guidance to staff. Requires attention to detail, confidentiality, and strong communication. Role located at Altra Federal Credit Union's Operations Center in Onalaska, WI, with potential after 3–6 months for hybrid remote work with manager approval. Full-time hourly position with opportunities for local and national travel as needed. Requires ability to travel and strong customer-service orientation; bilingual premium available for Spanish or Hmong upon language certification.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma (or equivalent) required
- Associate's degree (or higher) in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field is required
- Minimum three (3) years of benefits administrations required
- Minimum one (1) year of experience in leave of absence required
- SHRM-CP or PHR are preferred
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams)
- Proficient in HRIS and benefits administration systems
