Job Summary
Educate patients on health insurance benefits, coverage, and their financial responsibility for healthcare services. Explain insurance terminology including deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, out-of-pocket maximums, and benefit limitations. Review patient insurance benefits to clarify expected costs and explain how plans apply to hospital and physician services. Address questions regarding referrals, prior authorization requirements, and billing inquiries while providing educational materials and resources. Maintain accurate documentation of all patient education interactions and protect patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and privacy policies. Stay current on Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial, and Marketplace plan changes to ensure accurate information delivery.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
Desired Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or a related field
- Five years of experience in healthcare, patient accounting, patient access, insurance verification, customer service, or a related field
- Knowledge of health insurance terminology and benefit structures
