Benefits Coordinator - Finance Office

Job Summary

Coordinate employee benefits programs, including health, life, dental, vision, disability, annuity, and retirement plans. Manage enrollment, qualifying event changes, and terminations via web administration and paper processes. Reconcile payroll deductions to group insurance premium statements each pay period and submit payments to carriers. Provide COBRA notifications to exiting employees and collect necessary payments. Serve as the FMLA coordinator for the district. Prepare reports by gathering and organizing data from various sources. Attend benefit workshops to maintain current knowledge of statutes, regulations, and district policies. Work cooperatively with Finance and other department heads to complete paperwork related to employee benefits. Ensure all benefit deductions and plans are administered in accordance with Section 125 Cafeteria Plan regulations and applicable laws. Maintain new enrollments, address changes, and termination of plans for plan holders.

Required Qualifications

  • high school diploma or G.E.D. Certificate
  • Knowledge of various employee benefits plans
  • Knowledge of laws, statutes, regulations, policies, and procedures related to benefits
  • Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary
  • Knowledge of the Affordable Care Act
  • Advanced record-keeping techniques
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Microsoft Word
  • High aptitude for learning new technology and software
  • Knowledge of MUNIS Financial Software
  • Knowledge of employer regulations surrounding FMLA
  • Knowledge of employer legal obligations surrounding COBRA
  • Knowledge of accounting and bill reconciliation process
  • Knowledge of tax sheltered employee benefits
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and privacy practices
  • Knowledge of district organization, operations, policies and objectives
  • Knowledge of applicable sections of Kentucky Revised Statutes and other applicable laws
  • Ability to supervise the implementation and maintenance of the employee benefits program
  • Ability to coordinate enrollment for employee benefits
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others
  • Ability to work confidentially with discretion
  • Ability to provide benefit deduction amounts to payroll
  • Ability to provide benefit orientation sessions for small groups
  • Ability to meet schedules and deadlines
  • Ability to prepare reports by gathering and organizing data from a variety of sources
  • Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work efficiently with many interruptions
