Job Summary
Payroll & Benefits Manager provides strategic oversight and hands-on leadership across payroll and benefits operations, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and efficiency. Leads a payroll and benefits team, manages vendor relationships, drives process improvements, and serves as the organization’s subject matter expert across Total Rewards. Responsibilities include overseeing payroll processing, tax filings, open enrollment, benefits administration (health, dental, vision, life, disability, HSA, COBRA, 401(k), wellness), ensuring regulatory compliance (ACA, FMLA, etc.), coordinating audits, maintaining policies, mapping time/attendance data, and partnering with Finance and cross-functional teams. Requires 7+ years of experience, HRIS expertise (Workday/ADP preferred), strong communication, and a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Hybrid work location in Houston, TX or Richmond, VA; direct hire.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in payroll and/or benefits oversight
- leadership of payroll and/or benefits teams
- strong understanding of HRIS systems, payroll platforms, and benefits administration; experience with Workday and ADP
- proven ability to lead cross-functional compliance initiatives across payroll tax, ACA, FMLA, and related regulations
- excellent vendor management skills and ability to manage third-party relationships
- strong written and verbal communication skills
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Accounting, or related field, or equivalent work experience
