Job Summary
Shop Benchwork Technician I performs bench fabrication and manual shop operations to support prototype and manufacturing tasks. Responsibilities include filing, fitting, shaping metal components to specifications; deburring, edge finishing, polishing and buffing; honing blades; manual grinding and surface finishing; forming, assembling blanks and cutters per instructions; following work orders and process guidelines; performing precision handwork with hand and power tools; operating manual mills, grinders, laser marking, oxy-acetylene torch operations, welding and brazing; maintaining safe, organized workstations and reporting non-conformances for quality control. Requires 1–2 years of manufacturing or related experience, proficiency with calipers/micrometers and blueprints, strong attention to detail, and excellent hand dexterity. Scheduling is 40 hours per week, onsite with hybrid work options, located in Buellton, CA (US). The role emphasizes craftsmanship, precision, and continuous improvement within a manufacturing/shop environment.
Required Qualifications
- Highschool diploma or GED preferred
- 1–2 years of manufacturing, fabrication, benchwork, or related experience preferred
- Proficient in using standard inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, high gauges and comparators
- Ability to work with small precision components
- Willingness to learn manual fabrication processes
- Strong understanding of blueprints, part drawings and geometric tolerancing
- Familiarity with quality control standards, documentation practices and shop safety protocols
- Able to follow detailed work instructions and production schedules with minimal oversight
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot minor issues with tooling, offsets or part loading
- Basic computer skills and ability to use shop floor data collection software for job tracking and data entry
- Excellent hand dexterity and hand-eye coordination
