Job Summary
Bench Scientist Biotechnology role at Bayer requiring a Master’s degree (or PhD) with several years of relevant experience in Synthetic Biology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology or related fields. Responsibilities include leading and executing experiments to develop cost-effective biotech-based processes for pharmaceutical and crop protection products, applying microbial host engineering to improve protein production in bacteria and yeast, characterizing strains across bioreactor scales, leveraging automated bioprocess platforms, optimizing lab workflows with automation and digital tools, presenting project progress, collaborating across an international network of experts, and ensuring safety/compliance. The position is fixed-term through end of 2027, located in Leverkusen, Germany, with hybrid work options; salary is listed in euros, with a structured benefits package and supportive professional development. Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Synthetic Biology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or related discipline, combined with several years of relevant professional experience OR PhD in the same fields
- solid scientific and experimental expertise in molecular biology, genetic engineering, and screening techniques
- hands-on experience in strain characterization at microtiter scale and in small-scale fermentation
- digital mindset and knowledge of laboratory automation
- strong problem-solving abilities and ability to work independently and in teams
- fluency in English; German is a plus
