Job Summary
Lead therapeutic activities and provide mental health assistance to detained youth while maintaining unit security. Communicate with youth in groups and one-on-one to support treatment plans, observe and document behavioral concerns, and respond to mental health crises. Implement assigned interventions under supervision and coordinate with interdisciplinary staff regarding ongoing care. Maintain safe, rights-supportive environments and complete mandatory training and clinical oversight requirements. Work various shifts covering all days of the week inside a detention facility.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Two (2) years of experience in the care and treatment of those with mental health disorders or behavioral difficulties
- An equivalent combination of post-secondary education or job-related experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis
- Must pass a background investigation and PREA clearance
- Positions in Detention are subject to Tuberculosis (TB) testing
- all offers of employment are subject to successful completion of new employee processing and a negative TB result prior to your start date
- Must be able to work inside a detention facility
- Must be able to lift 20 pounds from floor to waist
- lift 20 pounds from waist to shoulder
- lift 20 pounds from shoulder to overhead
- able to carry 20 pounds in a distance of 50 feet
- push/pull 20 pounds with a distance of 50 feet
- must get on the floor to perform CPR chest compressions
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, see, read, distinguish colors, bend/kneel, reach, twist, climb, crawl, crouch, balance and wear protective gear
- Must be able to work various schedules to cover all shifts any day of the week to meet the needs of the facility and its youth
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with adults or adolescents involved in the Criminal Justice System
- experience working in a secured facility
- Associate degree from an accredited college in Psychology
- Social Work or Counseling with an emphasis on clinical work
