Job Summary

Deliver direct and indirect care for psychiatric patients under the direction of a Registered Nurse, using therapeutic communication and age-related interventions. Monitor patients and environments for safety, conduct routine rounding, and administer medications according to physician orders after obtaining consent. Document patient observations, vital signs, and behavioral changes while reporting abnormalities to supervisors and oncoming shifts. Process admissions and discharges, complete intake interviews, and screen patient conditions upon arrival. Identify physical, emotional, and social needs, provide patient education on safety and hygiene, and utilize de-escalation techniques when necessary. Requires Licensed Psychiatric Technician licensure, BLS certification, and specific aggression management training.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Education/GED or equivalent
  • Licensed Vocational Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse (LVN/LPN) or Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT)
  • Techniques for Effective Aggression Management (TEAM) or Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)
  • AHA-BLS or ARC-BLS
  • All required vaccinations as a condition of employment
  • E-Verify participation and understanding of Right to Work notices

Desired Qualifications

  • Associate's/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience
  • Two years' experience in acute or long-term mental healthcare hospital
  • Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) licensure in state of practice
