Job Summary

Responsible for supervising behavioral health technician functions, coordinating consumer activities, assisting medical staff with medication-related procedures and transport, facilitating groups and coordinating consumer trips, and ensuring safety and compliance within a residential treatment facility. Responsibilities include supervising and training consumers in job functions, conducting searches for contraband, collecting urine specimens, completing incident reports, maintaining communication logs, and providing role modeling and support for clients navigating treatment and recovery processes. Must collaborate with clinical staff, therapists, and program directors, adhere to confidentiality and HIPAA, and participate in mandated trainings. Requires at least HS diploma/GED, 1 year of substance-abuse-treatment experience, and BLS/CPR/First Aid as applicable, with Bachelor’s degree preferred and Florida Certification Board certification pursued within 6 months of hire.

Required Qualifications

  • Behavioral Health Technician certification, or actively pursuing certification, in good standing by through the Florida Certification Board, is required within 6 months of hire date
  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.) is required
  • Bachelor Degree preferred
  • One (1) year of experience in providing services in the field of substance abuse treatment is required
  • Bilingual is preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain and maintain WestCare’s vehicle insurance is required
  • CPR Certification, First Aid Certification and an annual Tuberculosis test
  • Ability to provide an Affidavit of Good Moral Character
  • Clearance in Pre-Employment Drug Testing and Criminal Records Checks, as required
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Adherence to the highest standard of ethical conduct, especially to standards governing confidentiality
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, Professional Ethics, Consumer Rights and Confidentiality
  • Understanding of issues related to cultural identity, ethnic background, age, developmental level, gender and sexual orientation in prevention, intervention and treatment
  • Demonstrates ability to work effectively with culturally diverse staff and consumers
  • Demonstrates respect for an individual’s cultural and ethnic values when interacting with them

  • Dresses and maintains a professional demeanor
  • Working Conditions: residential treatment setting; some outdoor activities may be required
  • Physical and Mental Demands: mobility, stamina, lifting up to 50 pounds, de-escalation techniques
  • Understanding of trauma and its impact
  • Knowledge of Incident Reporting
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
