Job Summary
The Behavioral Health Specialist (BHS) will manage safety and well-being of individuals and staff within the unit, conduct vital signs assessments, assist with activities of daily living, and document services in the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Responsibilities include security screening, orienting patients to the Observation Unit and Residential Crisis Stabilization Unit, educating individuals on rights and regulations, monitoring every 15 minutes, and applying therapeutic de-escalation techniques with restraints or seclusion when needed to ensure safety. The role requires high school diploma or equivalent and 1 year of behavioral health experience, proficiency with EHRs, and compliance with vaccination and background-check requirements. The candidate should be physically capable of safe interventions and lifting up to 50 lbs, with preference for CNA/Patient Care Tech or BHT certifications. Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1 year of behavioral health experience
- Experience using Electronic Health Records (EHR)
- The Company has a mandatory vaccination policy. All successful applicants must be fully vaccinated, including showing proper documentation, or otherwise be exempt pursuant to the Company’s exemption process prior to their start date as a condition of employment
- State of Virginia Fingerprint Clearance
- Must be able to pass Virginia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services (VA DBHDS) background check
- Must be able to pass Virginia Department of Social Services (VA DSS) Office of Background Investigations - Central Registry Search
- Must be able to obtain a Food Handlers Card for the State of Virginia (BHS/RSS positions)
- Physical Requirements: Safely perform physical interventions and lifting up to 50 lbs; tolerate fast-paced environment
- Desirable: Certified training (Safe Clinch, CPR First Aid, therapeutic options)
- Completion of CNA or Patient Care Tech program
- Completion of BHT certification
