Job Summary
Oversee California Medicaid behavioral health services by conducting utilization management reviews across all care levels and analyzing behavioral health trends. Serve as a clinical advisor through peer-to-peer clinical reviews with attending physicians, interpret medical policies, and develop new guidelines based on healthcare changes. Provide cross-coverage support for other medical directors while leading clinical activities that impact care quality, cost, and outcomes. Work virtually with required in-person meetings, maintaining a primary focus on Medicaid populations and serving as a resource for external and internal committees.
Required Qualifications
- MD or DO
- Board certification approved by one of the following certifying boards is required, where applicable to duties being performed, American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA)
- Active unrestricted medical license to practice medicine or a health profession in the state of California
- Located in a state or territory of the United States when conducting utilization review or an appeals consideration
- Not located on a US military base, vessel or any embassy located in or outside of the US
- Minimum of 10 years of clinical experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience providing health care (for Health Solutions and Carelon organizations only)

- Child and Adolescent, Addiction Psychiatry/Medicine board certification
