Job Summary
Peer Support Specialist position within AWS's Behavioral Health Home team. Utilize lived experience to provide hope, encouragement, and peer-based support to individuals navigating mental health and/or substance use recovery. Build supportive relationships, help identify strengths and recovery goals, assist with navigating mental health, medical, and community systems, connect members to resources, promote independence and self-advocacy, and participate in collaborative care coordination. Role is community-based, not clinical, with regular travel to member homes and community locations; in-person schedule 20–24 hours per week, with some evenings may be required. Requires participation in trainings, adherence to state licensing, CMS regulations, HIPAA standards, and documentation in EHR; driving/travel across the service area.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Associate Degree preferred
- Personal lived experience with mental health services and/or substance use recovery
- Willingness to appropriately self-disclose recovery experiences in peer and community settings
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment
- Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Electronic Health Records)
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to travel regularly throughout the service area and work in community-based settings
- Current State of Maine CIPSS certification preferred; willingness to obtain provisional certification within 9 months of hire
