Behavior Support Specialist

Job Summary

Provide direct and consultative support to students and school teams requiring social emotional support and management of behavioral needs across several district schools. Deliver coaching and professional development to staff on evidence-based strategies, data collection, Functional Behavior Assessments, and Behavior Intervention Plans. Conduct observations, model interventions, and assist in developing Individualized Educational Plans and transition goals. Manage crisis response and conflict resolution for students with significant educational challenges while maintaining accurate records of student progress and support. Collaborate with administrators to assess needs, set progress monitoring plans, and ensure compliance with district policies.

Required Qualifications

  • Must hold or be eligible to obtain a North Carolina professional educator's license or related educational field
  • Minimum of three years experience working with students with behavior/social emotional needs and/or students in a variety of instructional settings with behavioral, academic and/or social-emotional challenges
  • Must model and maintain exemplary punctuality and attendance
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • Ability to perform medium physical work duties consistent with the amount of time spent standing and/or walking, and be able to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to use a variety of office equipment such as computers, copiers, and scanners
  • Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrates excellent problem solving skills
  • Demonstrates excellent consultation and collaboration skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Preferred certification in de-escalation methods, Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), BCBA or BCaBA, or experience in application of evidence based interventions
