Behavior Support Assistant

Job Summary

Implement Tier 2 and Tier 3 behavior intervention plans and monitor student progress data based on team input. Provide in-the-moment crisis intervention, de-escalation, and supervision while collecting data for Functional Behavior Assessments. Lead restorative circles, conflict resolution meetings, and teach social-emotional skills through small-group instruction. Collaborate with counselors, teachers, administrators, and families to coordinate support plans and participate in MTSS and behavior team meetings. Assist students in classrooms and during transitions throughout the day. Full-time year-to-year position with schedule set by the School Administrator. Contingent on federal grant funding availability.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree (48 college credit hours) or higher
  • Experience working with students who need additional behavioral or emotional support and may experience crisis situations
  • Demonstrated understanding of behavioral strategies, social-emotional learning, and restorative practices
  • Knowledge of North Carolina content standards and behavior support frameworks
  • Expertise in evidence-based practices such as de-escalation, positive behavior reinforcement, trauma-informed care, and restorative practices
  • Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with students, staff, and families
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
  • Maintains confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical behavior
  • Capacity to collect, monitor, and act on student-level data related to behavior and wellness
  • Ability to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, and other instructional tools
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle
  • Must be able to perform physical functions including standing, walking, kneeling, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), and supporting students in crisis situations

Desired Qualifications

  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) training preferred or willingness to be trained
