Job Summary
Behavior Specialist needed in a K-8 Special Education setting to implement school-wide positive behavior support, monitor and document behavioral data, support classroom staff, conduct functional behavior assessments, and de-escalate crises using CPI strategies. Responsibilities include implementing targeted interventions at individual, group, and system-wide levels; modeling and reinforcing positive behaviors; maintaining SBS and BIP records; collaborating with IEP teams; applying ABA principles under supervision; conducting observations for FBA/BIP development; assisting in instructional activities and supervision; crisis intervention and safety compliance; and participating in team meetings and professional development. Requires high school diploma with basic skills test; a preferred Bachelor's degree; paraprofessional/educational aide credentials or RBT credential; crisis management certification; experience with ABA concepts, IEPs, FBA, PBIS, BIP; strong communication, organization, and data skills; and comfort with technology. Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent w/ passage of basic skills test
- Bachelor's degree or higher in a closely related field of study highly preferred
- Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining a paraprofessional, paraeducator, teaching assistant, educational aide or related credential
- Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining a registered behavior technician (RBT) credential preferred
- Ability to obtain and maintain certification in company approved crisis management training
- Prior experience providing behavioral instruction, guidance and/or support to children; preferably in an alternative, special education and/or behavioral health program setting
- Highly skilled in working with children with learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, emotional behavioral disorders and/or other related disabilities
- Well-versed in applied behavior analysis (ABA) including functional behavior assessment (FBA), positive behavior interventions and support (PBIS) and behavior intervention plans (BIP's) preferred
- Proficiency in providing motivation and having critical conversations with students that help move them toward realistic goals
- Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in an emergency situation and make independent decisions
- Solid motivational skills and willingness to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities and new initiatives
- Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem solving, and decision-making ability
- Knowledge of relevant technology including experience with computers, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry and basic office equipment
