Job Summary
Behavior Intervention Specialist position providing one-to-one or small group intensive behavior interventions to students, aiding implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and collaborating with special education teachers and support teams. Responsibilities include adapting activities under supervision, collecting behavioral data and observations, developing and monitoring behavior management systems, using de-escalation and proactive interventions, and ensuring safe, inclusive learning environments. Requires strong interpersonal skills, patience, ability to remain calm under pressure, high school diploma or GED, and at least 3 years of experience supporting students with social-emotional/behavioral needs, plus CPR and NVCI certification. The role emphasizes collaboration with teachers, occupational therapists, speech and language pathologists, school psychologists, and administrators, plus familiarity with state laws and trauma-informed practices.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum 3 years’ experience supporting students with social emotional and behavioral needs
- CPR and Non-violent crisis intervention certification (NVCI)
- Knowledge of behavioral de-escalation techniques
- Knowledge of behavior management systems
- Knowledge of restorative practices
- Knowledge of trauma informed care
- Knowledge of the behavior planning and functional behavior assessment process
- Ability to use technology (Google Sheets, Docs and Forms)
- Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal)
