Job Summary
Provide direct support to students with behavioral, social-emotional, and academic needs in classroom and school settings. Implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), positive behavior support strategies, and individualized interventions under the direction of certified staff. Assist students in developing self-regulation, conflict resolution, communication, and appropriate social skills while monitoring behavior and collecting data to support intervention planning. Supervise students during instruction, transitions, lunch, recess, and activities, assisting with crisis prevention and de-escalation using approved district procedures. Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and administrators to reinforce classroom routines and school-wide initiatives such as PBIS or MTSS.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to meet all applicable state, district, and school employment requirements, including successful completion of required background checks
- Regular and predictable attendance
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and professional in challenging situations
- Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, families, and student support staff
- Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and move throughout the school day
- Occasionally lift, transfer, or assist students and/or move objects weighing up to 50 lbs
- Assist with student supervision during indoor and outdoor activities
- Respond appropriately to behavioral crises, including utilizing approved physical intervention techniques when trained and authorized
- Withstand moderate to high noise levels in classroom and school environments
- Be able to perform first aid/CPR if necessary
Desired Qualifications
- Associate's degree or college coursework in education, psychology, social work, child development, special education, or a related field
- Previous experience working with children or adolescents exhibiting behavioral, emotional, or social challenges
- Knowledge of positive behavior interventions, classroom management strategies, and trauma-informed practices
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention), Safety-Care, or other approved de-escalation/restraint certification or willingness to obtain if required
