Job Summary

Behavior and Transfer Coordinator at Nevada Humane Society (Reno Campus): lead behavior assessments and modification plans to increase adoptability, coordinate transfers to rescue network partners, and support safe placement, including adoption, foster care, and transfers. Provide training to staff and volunteers on low-stress handling and enrichment; perform humane euthanasia when necessary to prevent suffering; supervise animal care workflows, documentation, and cross-department collaboration to ensure humane, ethical outcomes. Responsibilities include evaluating animals from Washoe County Regional Animal Services, developing enrichment and behavior plans, facilitating movement across campuses, and supporting adopter interactions and partner coordination.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum one (1) year of animal training/handling experience or rescue work
  • Minimum one (1) year of shelter-specific work as an employee or volunteer
  • Knowledge of basic animal behavior and body language
  • Knowledge of basic dog training principles and experience with intermediate or advanced behavior modification
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team and manage multiple projects
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Possession of a valid Nevada or California Driver’s license with valid registration and insurance for positions requiring driving
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development in canine behavior
  • Ability to work autonomously, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines
  • Staying updated on community developments in animal welfare
  • Comprehensive understanding of pet behavior and care, with the capability to handle various animals safely and responsibly
  • Maintaining a consistently positive and professional demeanor
