Job Summary
Assist in the Behavior, Training, and Enrichment Department with daily Behavior Checks; participate in canine playgroup; independently provide enhanced enrichment to animals identified to need it; perform appropriate, accurate behavioral assessments and report findings timely; organize and monitor daily enrichment for the shelter population; communicate and coordinate with multiple departments; assist in public and volunteer training classes; participate in continuing education opportunities; reliably report to work during emergency circumstances and inclement weather; work primarily in a shelter environment with exposure to animal-related hazards; physical duties include handling animals, lifting up to 50 lbs, and using training equipment across multiple species.
Required Qualifications
- Animal handling experience is required
- Preference for experience with animal behavior and training
- Fear Free handling knowledge preferred (or intended completion)
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow detailed and standardized instructions
- Ability to handle large and sometimes dangerous animals
- Recording and maintenance of observations, data, and plans in the assigned format
- Effective communication skills both verbal and written
- Cooperative, professional, and respectful communication with staff, volunteers, and members of the public
- Ability to pay attention to details, organize, and follow through on assigned tasks
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
