Job Summary
Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans while actively participating in daily activities for youth before and after school. Serve as the on-site supervisor for staff and camp programs, managing materials and supplies to maintain quality standards. Build positive relationships with staff, families, and children by providing motivational support, conducting parent conferences, and resolving complaints. Collaborate with local school district administration to align programming with district values and ensure safety, cleanliness, and compliance with Department of Children and Families regulations. Maintain participant records and attend all required staff meetings and trainings.
Required Qualifications
- At least 18 years of age
- 240 hours of experience in an approved education setting
- Completed high school or equivalent
- Met all Child Care Licensing requirements including one of the following: 2 DCF-approved courses in early childhood education (credit or non-credit) or the school-age equivalent; 48 credits from an institution of higher education with at least 3 credits in early childhood education or school-age growth and development; an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in education; a Child Development Association credential; or otherwise qualified as a School-Age Program Leader through The Wisconsin Registry
- Minimum of 240 hours of related experience working with early childhood or school-aged children in an approved setting
- Ability to obtain CPR, First Aid, AED, Abusive Head Trauma, Mandated Reporter, Wisconsin Child Care Registry certification, and additional non-credit coursework (as needed) within specified time frame
- Sincere interest and ability to comprehend needs and develop positive outcomes in children from diverse populations
- Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others
- Ability to relate effectively with diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Exhibit the core values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility in all aspects of their work with the YMCA
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs
- Must be able to work indoors and outdoors
- Must be able to assume postures in low levels to allow physical and visual contact with children
- Must see and hear well enough to keep children safe
- Must be able to engage in physical activity with children
