Job Summary

Plan and implement classroom curriculum, provide homework assistance, and communicate information to families while maintaining a safe, healthy, warm, engaging, and attractive environment. Serve as a liaison between the school day teacher and parents to support the academic and social-emotional success of students. Ensure adherence to EEC licensing standards and an inclusive culture through age-appropriate activities that foster cognitive skills, self-awareness, peer relationships, and character development. Conduct yourself as a caring, responsible, and respectful role model for colleagues, participants, and families. Prioritize child safety and emotional well-being while managing smooth transitions and promoting healthy living and social responsibility.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Three months of experience working with school age children
  • Six months of experience working with school age children
  • Three months of supervised experience at a school age child care program
  • Nine months of experience with school age children
  • Supervised experience at a school age child care program
  • Minimum of 12 hours per week
  • Keeps safety of children as first priority
  • Emphasizes personal safety and emotional well-being with the children, parents, and early education staff
  • Uses positive and constructive methods of child guidance
  • Adheres to the rules, regulations and procedures set forth by the YMCA of Greater Boston, the branch location, and the Department of Early Education and Care
  • Ensures supervision of children
  • Manages smooth transitions
  • Works with the Site Director in the design of the program space
  • Maintains facility and supplies
  • Assists the Site Director with relevant assessments
  • Provides children with a well-balanced curriculum
  • Supports social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and language development
