Job Summary
Plan and implement classroom curriculum, provide homework assistance, and maintain a safe, healthy, warm, and engaging environment for school-age children. Serve as a liaison between the school day teacher and parents to support academic and social-emotional success. Ensure adherence to EEC licensing standards, promote inclusive culture, and conduct age-appropriate activities fostering cognitive skills, self-awareness, and character development. Communicate information to families, manage smooth transitions, and assist the Site Director with program space design, facility maintenance, and relevant assessments.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Associate's degree
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Three months of experience working with school age children
- Six months of experience working with school age children
- Three months of supervised experience at a school age child care program
- Nine months of experience with school age children
- Three months of supervised experience at a school age child care program
- Minimum of 12 hours per week
- Every block of 50 hours counts for one month
- Keeps safety of children as first priority
- Emphasizes personal safety and emotional well-being with the children, parents, and early education staff
- Uses positive and constructive methods of child guidance
- Ensures that all staff does the same
- Adheres to the rules, regulations and procedures set forth by the YMCA of Greater Boston, the branch location, and the Department of Early Education and Care
- Ensures supervision of children
- Manages smooth transitions
- Promotes safety and appropriate behavior
- Works with the Site Director in the design of the program space
- Maintains facility and supplies
- Works with the Site Director with relevant assessments
- Provides progress reports
- Provides parent surveys
- Provides program self-assessment
- Provides children with a well-balanced curriculum
