Job Summary

Supervise, evaluate, and coach Before & After School Program site staff and substitutes while actively engaging in academic, enrichment, and recreational activities with students ages 5–12. Manage site operations by adhering to District policy and Iowa Department of Human Services Minimum Standards, compiling required documentation, and ensuring facility maintenance and supply availability. Prepare hands-on, age-appropriate curriculum, assist with special events and field trips, and recruit students to maintain enrollment. Maintain open communication with parents, administrators, and employees while implementing positive behavior management techniques and ensuring consistent safety protocols. Work Monday through Friday from 6:15 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with required availability for no-school day camps and inclement weather days.

Required Qualifications

  • Meets the Iowa Department of Human Services site supervisor qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Previous work experience with children
  • Have, or be able to obtain, current adult and child CPR and First Aid Certification with AED training within the designated timeline
  • No-School Day Camps – required availability 6:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., as enrollment requires
  • Extended Break Camp (winter, spring) – required availability 6:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., as enrollment requires
  • Inclement Weather Program Days – per Handbook inclement weather hours
  • Position is scheduled for the full program contract year
  • Total weekly hours will not exceed 40 hours
  • Some evening and weekend hours may be required on a limited basis
  • Attend work regularly, routinely, and on time
  • Maintain open communications with parents and customers while providing exemplary customer care
  • Maintain confidentiality of personnel and student information and records
  • Successfully implement and model positive student behavior management techniques
  • Establish a positive, supportive, and working relationship with employees
  • Attend Required Professional Development: Staff Orientation and Training – as scheduled
  • Attend monthly site leadership and team meetings as scheduled, potentially outside of regular program hours
  • Supervise and engage large groups of students ages 5–12 in a safe, structured, and supportive environment
  • Maintain a positive and effective system of discipline that motivates students and supports their social-emotional development
  • Provide direct supervision and support to multiple levels of staff, ensuring consistent implementation of program goals and procedures
  • Collaborate effectively as a team member and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills when working with students, families, staff, and administrators
  • Read, interpret, and implement lesson plans and curriculum activities aligned with program objectives
  • Follow verbal and written instructions, taking initiative and performing complex tasks independently with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills by managing materials, schedules, and responsibilities efficiently
  • Balance multiple priorities and complete tasks on time in a fast-paced, dynamic program setting
  • Communicate clearly and professionally through both written and verbal means with students, staff, and families
  • Adapt to new situations and challenges with a flexible, growth-oriented mindset
  • Ensure consistent and accurate implementation of all program procedures and safety protocols
  • Maintain emotional control under stress
  • lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, reaching, driving, standing and walking
  • Working conditions may include extreme temperatures and humidity
  • Hazards may include exposure to communicable diseases

Desired Qualifications

  • Certified teacher or Early Childhood Education Degree, preferred
  • Previous experience with project management, leadership, mentoring/coaching children; preferred
