Job Summary
Manage the Bee Inspection and Noxious Weed Control programs, overseeing long-term plans, policies, and procedures while ensuring compliance with the Utah Bee Inspection and Noxious Weed Acts. Supervise staff through hiring, training, performance reviews, and discipline; develop budgets, grant applications, and proposals. Facilitate Noxious Weed Control board meetings, train new members, and coordinate with partners and contractors to implement projects. Serve as a technical expert providing data, presentations, and best management practices to stakeholders, schools, and the public. Monitor weed populations, biocontrol releases, and environmental health; contact landowners for recommendations. Create educational curricula, conduct outreach, and prepare accurate reports for agencies. Represent the division at meetings and seminars, develop partnerships with federal, state, and local agencies, and work in field conditions including hiking and mapping in all weather.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Botany, Environmental Science, Horticulture, or other closely related field
- four (4) years of closely related experience
- equivalent combination of related education and experience
- prior supervisory experience
- Must be able to obtain a Utah Pesticide Applicator's license within six (6) months of hire
- A valid Driver's License accepted by the State of Utah at the time of hire
- A valid Driver's License issued by the State of Utah obtained within six (6) months of hire
- Must pass a required background check through fingerprinting and enrollment in the continuous RAP Back (Record of Arrest and Prosecution Back) program
Desired Qualifications
- Preference will be given to applicants with prior supervisory experience
