Job Summary
Conduct packaging design for lithium-ion battery cells, including electronics packaging, electrical busbar design, and plastic and bent/stamped part design. Manage thermal management of electrical components and design for automotive manufacturing processes. Interface with CAE and Validation teams for design validation and execute DRE activities as required. Requires familiarity with lithium ion cell chemistries, injection molding, and heat transfer analysis, plus SolidWorks or CATIA V6 experience. This 6-month contract begins remotely before reporting to the Irvine office when Rivian returns.
Required Qualifications
- Familiarity with lithium ion cell chemistries and form factors
- Injection molding design experience
- Bent/stamped part design experience
- Understanding of electrical systems and basic circuit analysis
- Working knowledge of Joule heating analysis
- Strong understanding of heat transfer, especially with fluids (thermal stack up, coolant loops, gasket design, etc.)
- Familiarity with automotive powertrain requirements
- Familiarity with automotive testing and validation process
- SolidWorks and/or CATIA V6 experience
- 5+ years industry experience or 3+ years with Masters Degree
- Candidates MUST have a bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical preferred)
Desired Qualifications
- FEA experience preferred
- Knowledge of Catia V5 (V6 preferred)
- FEA knowledge- know what questions to ask and what the answers should sound like
