Battery Cell Design Lead Engineer

Job Summary
Lead battery cell design and 3D CAD modeling for casings, tabs, and sealing components, optimizing for thermal management, structural integrity, and vibration resistance. Specify materials based on performance and manufacturability, then perform tolerance stack-up, thermal expansion, and mechanical stress analyses using FEA tools. Collaborate with electrochemistry, thermal, electrical, and manufacturing teams to ensure designs support optimal cell performance and integrate seamlessly into modules. Execute DFMEA to validate high-volume production readiness, incorporate supplier feedback, and generate technical drawings ensuring compliance with UL, IEC, and ISO standards. Prepare accurate reports and project documentation for management and stakeholders while gathering strategic data to address program challenges.
Required Qualifications
- In-depth knowledge of battery cell materials
- In-depth knowledge of battery cell manufacturing
- Understanding of mechanical part stress, fatigue, and thermal expansion
- Experienced in process: Sealing and welding techniques (e.g., laser welding for tabs)
- CATIA, NX, SolidWorks, or Creo
- GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
- PLM systems (Teamcenter, Windchill, etc.)
- Degree or relevant experience in Engineering or a related technical field
- Strong technical aptitude and understanding of process engineering principles
- Excellent project management, leadership, and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously
- Familiarity with industry standards, best practices, and compliance requirements
- Good communication skills in an international and intercultural environment
- Hands-on mentality
- Knowledge of the automotive industry
- Experience in the areas of battery cell development
