Job Summary
Arrive at games 15 minutes prior to start, demonstrating advanced knowledge of the sport and effectively enforcing rules. Conduct brief coach meetings before games, facilitate team gatherings, and recite the Youth Sports Pledge to promote sportsmanship. Stop play when necessary to explain violations consistently and fairly while creating a positive environment. Develop authentic relationships with players, parents, and volunteers, encouraging parent involvement and identifying potential volunteers. Manage large groups across varying age groups and attend required staff meetings and training sessions. Work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as required.
Required Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Thorough knowledge of the sport and ability to enforce rules effectively
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Completion of YMCA Sports Referee Level 1 or 2 training
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required
Desired Qualifications
- Experience refereeing sports preferred
- Previous experience working with children in a supervised setting preferred
