Job Summary

Lead individual and group barn activities to support the educational and social development of students with disabilities under the Barn Manager's direction. Feed, exercise, groom, and maintain various animals including horses, goats, pigs, and rabbits while cleaning stalls, water buckets, and maintaining tack. Safely tuck and untack horses, monitor volunteers and students in barn environments, and assist those with behavioral concerns in developing appropriate social skills. Confers regularly with Riding Instructors to evaluate student progress. Requires horse handling experience, ability to lift 50 pounds, and comfort in a barn setting supporting therapeutic equine recreation.

Required Qualifications

  • Horse handling experience including, but not limited to, tacking/untacking, leading, and safely working around horses
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Comfort in barn setting supporting horseback riding & small animal activities
  • Knowledge of the basic principles and techniques of therapeutic equine recreation: the types of equipment used, safety practices and procedures, a variety of individual and group barn activities, care/grooming/maintenance of a variety of animals
  • Recent physical indicating the ability to perform the essential functions of the job either with or without accommodations
  • Proof of negative TB
  • Required immunizations including Covid-19, MMR, Varicella, Tdap, and Hepatitis B

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with children and young adults with various levels of behavioral, physical and learning disabilities
