Job Summary
Set up the theatre to accommodate patients and provide competent scrub provision while supporting the surgeon through the daily list, anticipating problems, and resolving issues. Clean down the theatre at the end of the day and ensure the highest standards in patient safety, clinical compliance, and hygiene. Manage clinical waste with correct disposal procedures, maintain accurate patient records, and undertake medicine management and audit duties. Assist patients by putting them at ease during eye surgery procedures. This role is based at the Newcastle site within a high-volume cataract surgery provision.
Required Qualifications
- Fully qualified Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner
- Current registration with the NMC or HCPC
- Right to work in the UK
- Extensive theatre scrub experience
- Ability to set up for vitrectomy surgery
- Full understanding of Phaco Instrumentation
- Working knowledge of Biometry/Lens bank/Implants
- Previous hospital eye service or private eye clinic experience
- Knowledge of clinical practice and aware of current developments in Optometry
- Capable of working in a fast paced, high-volume theatre setting
- Experience of supporting the surgeon during theatre – problem solving and issue resolution
- The training and coaching of others
- The desire for and commitment to continuous professional development
- A competent user of computer systems and programmes
- An excellent grasp of the English language both verbally and in written format
- A good team player – happy to jump in and support others when required
Desired Qualifications
- Ophthalmic experience in a theatre setting
