Job Summary
Bank Connectivity Operations Engineer role in Light’s onboarding team: you’ll set up and maintain secure host-to-host bank connections (SFTP, SSH/PGP key exchange), implement end-to-end payment system integrations (PAIN and CAMT, ISO 20022) including live penny tests with banks and customers, and lead bank integration projects across domestic and international payments. You’ll debug payment formats, improve reliability, and build maintainable backend infrastructure while collaborating with banks, customers, and engineers to shape the money backbone of the Smart Financial Platform.
Required Qualifications
- 2–3 years of experience building backend systems in payments, fintech, or financial services — ideally with H2H, SFTP, or ISO 20022 integrations
- Strong backend development skills in Kotlin, Java, Go, or Python
- Solid understanding of databases (Postgres or similar)
- Hands-on experience with payment file formats (PAIN and CAMT) and familiarity with SEPA, ACH, Wires, Faster Payments, CHAPS, and Bacs
- Clear communicator capable of collaborating with banks, customers, and teammates across time zones
- Structured, detail-oriented problem solver with ownership mindset
- Experience applying AI or emerging tech tools to improve productivity and decision-making with first-principles thinking
- Bonus: experience integrating with card networks, payment gateways, or banking partners
- Bonus: built or scaled payment services in a high-growth startup
- Bonus: familiarity with AWS, Docker, or Kubernetes
