Band Teacher (Part-Time)

Job Summary
Develop students' understanding of musical genres and styles while teaching guitar, jazz ensemble, concert band, and percussion. Create lesson plans, model performance skills, and provide feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding progress and goals. Identify and promote individual student talents in vocal and instrumental expression by conducting small group instruction and ongoing assessments. Plan, coordinate rehearsals for, and direct students in musical programs and performances outside the classroom. Maintain accurate record-keeping, grading, and reporting for student activities, achievement, and attendance. Select and requisition music supplies, maintain inventory records, and ensure instrumental equipment is in good working order. Encourage parental involvement and ensure student conduct conforms to school standards during practice, rehearsal, and performances.
Required Qualifications
- State certification in Music (license code 800)
- Designated as 'highly qualified'
- Knowledge of all instruments
- Ability to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, calculators, etc.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle
- Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects
- Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information
- Ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, forms, strategic plans, etc.
- Ability to prepare correspondence, reports, forms, evaluations, budgets, etc., using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style
- Ability to speak before groups of people with poise, voice control and confidence
- Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently in standard English
- Ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add and subtract; multiply and divide; utilize decimals and percentages; and to apply the principles of algebra, descriptive statistics and statistical inference
- Ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape
- Ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment
- Ability to handle a variety of items such as office equipment and hand tools
- Ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color
- Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions
- Ability to be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations
- Ability to talk and hear
