Job Summary
Clean and wipe down student band instruments, removing visible dirt, dust, fingerprints, and residue according to established shop procedures. Prepare instrument cases by wiping surfaces and vacuuming interiors, while safely handling brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments to prevent damage to finishes and components. Organize cleaned items into staging areas for inspection, repair, or fulfillment, and identify visible damage or missing parts to communicate concerns to the BTR Shop Manager or assigned technician. Maintain an orderly work area by following safety, sanitation, and chemical-handling procedures, and support the team with instrument preparation and workflow needs during peak seasonal demand.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to follow detailed cleaning, sanitation, and instrument-handling procedures
- Strong attention to detail and concern for product condition
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately and consistently
- Strong reliability, attendance, and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently while also supporting a team-based production environment
- Willingness to learn about band instruments and proper handling techniques
- Ability to work necessary hours during peak seasonal demand, including occasional overtime when needed
- This position is based onsite at Schmitt Music's Bloomington, MN repair facility
- Work requires frequent standing, walking, reaching, bending, and repetitive hand movements
- Responsibilities may include lifting, carrying, and moving instruments and cases weighing up to approximately 30 pounds
- Required personal protective equipment and sanitation procedures must be followed
- This is a seasonal position expected to continue through October 31, 2026
- Team members in this role are expected to demonstrate flexibility, urgency, and a strong team mindset during this peak season
Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience cleaning, handling, assembling, or maintaining musical instruments
- General familiarity with band instruments
