Job Summary
Plan and teach Ballet Folklórico classes to participants of various ages, instructing students in traditional regional dances, choreography, footwork, and performance techniques. Incorporate the history and cultural significance of dances, music, costumes, and traditions into lesson plans while maintaining a positive, inclusive classroom environment. Supervise classes safely, set up and clean instructional spaces, and prepare students for showcases and community events as assigned. Monitor attendance, communicate progress with families, and work with the Recreation Services Manager to determine schedules. Maintain CPR/AED certification or earn it within 60 days. This role supports the Wheeling Park District's organizational values of respect and continuous learning, with Sunday mornings and Tuesday nights preferred.
Required Qualifications
- One to two years of college experience at a college or university or equivalent professional experience
- Must have an interest in working with children and adults in a fun learning environment
- Candidate must have experience teaching and planning curriculum for Ballet Folklórico dance to children, and teens/adults
- Must have knowledge of traditional Mexican regional dances and their cultural significance
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions and problem solve
- Must be able to read, write and speak in English
- Must have CPR/AED certification or be able to earn within 60 days
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb stairs, twist, talk and hear
- Must be able to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms
- Specific vision abilities are required and include close vision and ability to adjust focus
- May need to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
Desired Qualifications
- Sunday Mornings and Tuesday Nights Preferred, but potential flexibility on class days/times pending instructor availability
